At a 6.6 percent growth rate, New Braunfels was No. 2 in the nation from July 2014 to July 2015, topping 70,000 in population. Georgetown, north of Austin, was No. 1 among cities above 50,000 people.
But in actual numbers, bigger cities like San Antonio continue to draw more people. It was No. 4 on the list of U.S. cities for numeric gains, adding more than 29,000 people for the year ending July 1, 2015, reaching 1.47 million. Houston was second, Fort Worth sixth, Dallas seventh and Austin eighth.
Besides New Braunfels and Georgetown, three other cities in Texas were among the nation’s 11 fastest-growing: Frisco, Pearland and Plugerville, all mid-sized cities below 200,000 people. San Marcos fell off the top 15 list for fastest-growing after ranking first for the last three years in a row.
